Hyderabad: BJP Confident of GHMC Victory, Eyes Momentum for Assembly Elections
Bandi Sanjay Kumar, former Telangana president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Union Minister of State for Home, has expressed strong confidence in the party’s prospects for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. Kumar believes that a successful bid for the GHMC, including securing the Mayor’s position, will set a favorable trajectory for the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Kumar highlighted what he perceives as growing public disillusionment with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress government. According to him, this discontent signals a shift in favor of the BJP. He also speculated about a potential electoral alliance among Congress, BRS, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), but remained optimistic about the BJP’s competitive edge.
During a membership drive event in Rangareddy district, Kumar took the opportunity to criticize Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He accused Reddy of previously threatening to act against former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) but claimed that Reddy’s resolve had waned, allegedly due to KCR’s connections with Congress leaders in Delhi. Kumar suggested that had the BJP been in power, it would have taken more decisive actions against KCR.
Further, Kumar questioned KCR’s response to recent heavy rains that severely affected Khammam and Mahabubnagar districts, implying that KCR’s silence on these issues reflected poorly on his leadership. He concluded by dismissing any possibility of KCR’s political resurgence, labeling it as a “pipedream.”
Kumar’s statements underscore the BJP’s strategy to capitalize on current political dynamics and voter sentiment as it prepares for critical electoral battles in Telangana.
