BJP Alleges Extravagance in Arvind Kejriwal’s Former Bungalow
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised serious allegations regarding the expenditures made on luxury household items at the Flagstaff Road bungalow previously occupied by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The party cited an unverified inventory, claiming that significant sums were spent on high-end amenities, including a “missing” hi-tech toilet seat.
Kejriwal vacated the bungalow earlier this month after stepping down as chief minister, and the residence has since been allotted to his successor, Atishi, who has yet to take possession. The Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi government, which manages the property, has not issued any immediate response to the BJP’s claims.
During a press conference, Atishi addressed the BJP’s allegations, stating, “The BJP can keep the house and allot it to any of its leaders. We don’t care about the house, bungalow, or car. We will work for the people of Delhi, even if we have to work from the street.”
BJP national IT department head Amit Malviya shared a list of alleged luxury items installed in what the party referred to as Kejriwal’s “Sheeshmahal.” He specifically highlighted the absence of fully automatic TOTO smart toilet seats, which are equipped with features such as automatic opening and closing, heated seats, wireless remote deodorization, and automatic flushing. Malviya estimated the cost of such a toilet to range between Rs 10-12 lakh.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva condemned the alleged misuse of public funds, asserting that while modern amenities are essential for a chief minister’s residence, spending excessively under the guise of comfort is unacceptable. The BJP has previously campaigned against Kejriwal, accusing him of irregularities in the bungalow’s reconstruction and branding it “Sheeshmahal” for its lavish interiors.
A probe is already underway regarding the alleged violations associated with the bungalow’s reconstruction, further intensifying the scrutiny on Kejriwal’s administration. The situation continues to unfold as both parties engage in a war of words over the accusations and their implications for governance in Delhi.
