Hyderabad: BRS Criticizes Congress Over Loan Waiver Scheme
On Thursday, K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accused the Congress government in Telangana of deceiving farmers through its recent Rs 2 lakh loan waiver announcement. Rao, commonly known as KTR, voiced his discontent following Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s launch of the third and final phase of the loan waiver program.
KTR described the Congress government’s actions as emblematic of “deceit,” citing a reduction in the number of beneficiaries as a key issue. He expressed concerns that those excluded from the waiver would likely protest, underscoring the dissatisfaction among the farming community.
The BRS leader challenged the Congress administration to justify how it managed to offer a Rs 2 lakh waiver with a budget of Rs 17,900 crore, compared to the BRS government’s expenditure of Rs 17,000 crore for a Rs 1 lakh waiver. He criticized the Congress scheme as a “million-dollar joke” and likened it to the previously criticized Paddy bonus scheme, arguing that it exemplified Congress’s alleged fraudulent practices.
KTR also highlighted discrepancies between campaign promises and current realities, recalling that during the election, Congress pledged a complete loan waiver for all farmers. He pointed out that despite these promises, the Congress government had imposed numerous conditions, leading to further distress among farmers.
In a similar vein, BRS leader T. Harish Rao condemned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for failing to deliver on the loan waiver commitment. Harish Rao denounced Reddy’s leadership, asserting that no Chief Minister in the history of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana had been as disappointing as Reddy.
The BRS’s critique reflects ongoing tensions between the ruling Congress government and its opposition, with the farming community’s financial challenges at the heart of the debate.
