Hyderabad: BRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao Projects Strong Election Outcomes for Party, Addresses Various Issues in Telangana Politics
Hyderabad: BRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed confidence in securing 8 to 12 seats for his party in the upcoming general elections. He predicted that the BJP would secure either one or no seats in Telangana and anticipated that the Congress would face public dissatisfaction due to unfulfilled promises.
During a televised interview with a Telugu news channel on Tuesday, Rao conveyed his optimism about BRS’s ascendance to power in the state in the forthcoming elections, with him returning as Chief Minister.
When questioned about the potential downfall of the Congress government, Rao suggested that, while he couldn’t predict the exact outcome, there was a possibility of such an eventuality following the Lok Sabha elections. “Post the general elections, the BJP is likely to destabilize the government in Himachal Pradesh, subsequently challenging the Congress in Telangana,” he commented. He also stated his democratic wish for the Congress government to complete its full term.
Regarding the formation of a coalition government, Rao indicated that decisions would be made based on prevailing circumstances.
On BRS’s Election Performance Chandrasekhar Rao defended his party’s performance in the previous elections, attributing the narrow 1.8 percent vote difference between BRS and Congress to voters being swayed by Congress’ promises and manifesto pledges.
Kaleshwaram Controversy Rao refuted allegations regarding the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme and Medigadda barrage. He criticized the Congress for exploiting the Medigadda barrage issue to tarnish his reputation. He suggested alternative methods, like using sandbags, to manage water flow and protect the Mid Manair reservoir and crops.
He warned of initiating public movements if the State government failed to operationalize Kaleshwaram and complete the partially constructed PRLIS (Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme).
Debt Allegations Rao defended the state’s debt position, stating, “The comparison of Telangana’s debt to GSDP ratio with 23 other states in the country shows a favorable position for Telangana.” He highlighted the government’s prioritization of public needs, emphasizing irrigation, drinking water, and desilting of irrigation tanks.
Defection of BRS Leaders Discussing the defection of Kadiam Srihari, Rao claimed that BRS had supported and elevated him politically. He suggested that Srihari’s career decline was due to his personal actions and expressed confidence in BRS’s performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
On Kavitha’s Arrest Rao dismissed the Delhi Liquor Scam allegations against his daughter, Kavitha, as baseless, accusing Prime Minister Modi of fabricating the charges. He expressed confidence in his daughter’s exoneration.
Phone Tapping Allegations Rao defended the state’s intelligence operations, stating, “Intelligence gathering is a standard activity of the police department conducted under proper authorization.” He emphasized that the chief ministers and the cabinet are not involved in such activities.
Future of BRS and TRS Regarding a potential return to the TRS name, Rao indicated that such an option was not viable due to regulations from the Election Commission of India. He stressed the importance of voter mindset over party symbols or names in elections.
