Hyderabad: BRS MLA Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy Reverts to Congress After Brief Return to BRS
In a dramatic political turnaround, BRS MLA Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy met with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday, signaling his intent to remain with the Congress party. This development comes after Reddy had briefly rejoined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) just a month after defecting to Congress.
Last month, Krishnamohan Reddy, who represents the Gadwal constituency in the undivided Mahabubnagar district, had made headlines by joining Congress. However, he caused a stir on Tuesday when he met BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and expressed his desire to return to the BRS.
The MLA’s latest meeting with Chief Minister Reddy, accompanied by Excise and Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, underscores his commitment to Congress. Following their meeting, the trio proceeded to the Assembly session, highlighting a shift back to his initial party allegiance.
Krishnamohan Reddy’s return to Congress was reportedly influenced by dissatisfaction with some Congress leaders in his constituency and the need for tangible developmental actions in Gadwal. Minister Krishna Rao reassured Reddy that the government would address these concerns, reinforcing his decision to stay with the ruling party.
On July 6, Reddy had joined Congress in a ceremony with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. His defection is part of a broader trend, with ten BRS MLAs shifting allegiance to Congress since March. This mass exodus has significantly altered the political landscape, reducing BRS’s Assembly strength from 39 to 28 seats and boosting Congress’s tally to 72.
In light of these changes, former Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy hosted a dinner on Wednesday attended by defectors, the Chief Minister, and several ministers, where promises of a favorable political future were extended to the new Congress members.
The shifting allegiances continue to reshape the political dynamics in Hyderabad, with the Congress party capitalizing on recent defections to strengthen its position.
