Hyderabad: BRS President K. Chandrasekhar Rao Announces New Agitation Plans
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao declared on Sunday that the party is preparing to launch a new agitation aimed at safeguarding the interests of the people of Telangana.
Speaking at a gathering held at the BRS headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, on the occasion of Telangana Formation Day, the former chief minister outlined the party’s intent to initiate the agitation with innovative strategies tailored for Telangana.
Despite recent electoral setbacks, KCR reaffirmed the BRS’s unwavering commitment to uphold the rights and welfare of Telangana residents, emphasizing that political outcomes would not deter their mission.
“Elections may come and go, but our foremost duty remains serving the people,” stated KCR, addressing the first state formation day celebration since losing power to the Congress.
Amidst enthusiastic support from his followers, KCR expressed his renewed vigor by announcing that he no longer relies on his walking stick. “I am prepared and capable of leading another agitation,” he asserted.
Drawing an analogy, KCR likened the BRS to a resilient tree, acknowledging disappointment over recent electoral defeats while recalling the overwhelming public support during the statehood movement and subsequent campaigns.
Highlighting the narrow margin of defeat in the recent Assembly elections, KCR credited the BRS’s tenure for bolstering the rural economy and reiterated the party’s founding mission to protect Telangana’s interests.
Dismissive of speculations about the BRS’s future in Telangana politics, KCR confidently predicted a resurgence for the party, asserting that the Congress government’s days are numbered and claiming that the BRS would secure 105 Assembly seats if elections were held today.
In the November 2023 Assembly elections, the BRS lost power after securing only 39 seats in the 119-member Assembly.
KCR extended congratulations to BRS candidate Naveen Kumar Reddy for winning the MLC by-election in Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s home district, underscoring the significance of the victory.
Regarding exit polls, KCR criticized them as unreliable and reiterated the BRS’s focus on public welfare over political gains, while also criticizing the Congress government for failing to fulfill its promises.
Reflecting on the Telangana movement’s history, KCR recalled the challenges faced and sacrifices made, emphasizing the movement’s enduring impact and the debt owed to its proponents.
He concluded by recalling the suppression faced by advocates of Telangana and vowed to continue the struggle for the region’s welfare and development.
