Hyderabad: BRS Announces Statewide Protests Over Farm Loan Waiver Discrepancies
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has declared plans to stage statewide protests and dharnas on August 22, demanding that the Congress government fully implement the farm loan waiver scheme without conditions. BRS Working President KT Rama Rao has criticized the state government for extending the waiver to only 40% of eligible farmers, highlighting significant confusion and frustration among the farming community.
KT Rama Rao has noted discrepancies in the statements made by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and various ministers regarding the loan waiver process. The Chief Minister claimed that all eligible farmers had received a waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh, yet some ministers have indicated that the waiver process remains incomplete.
KTR underscored the difficulties faced by farmers who have not yet received their waivers, as they continue to encounter challenges in resolving their issues at local offices.
Former Minister Harish Rao has raised concerns about the credibility of the Congress government’s claims. He pointed out that while Chief Minister Reddy stated at a Khammam meeting that the loan waiver had been fully implemented with an allocation of Rs 18,000 crore, subsequent statements from the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy have suggested a total completed amount of Rs 31,000 crore, with an additional Rs 12,000 crore to be released. Harish Rao questioned, “Whom should the people believe?”
