Bumrah, Jansen, and Rauf Nominated for ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award
New Delhi, Dec 5: Three fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Marco Jansen, and Haris Rauf—have been nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for November 2024, following their outstanding performances across various formats of the game.
Jasprit Bumrah has earned his nomination after leading India to a dominant 295-run victory over Australia in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy match in Perth. Bumrah, who stood in as captain for Rohit Sharma, was a key contributor with the ball, claiming eight wickets in the match. His impressive spell of 5-30 in the first innings helped India seize a 46-run lead, and he followed up with 3-42 in the second innings. Bumrah’s stellar bowling was pivotal in India’s victory, keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord’s.
Marco Jansen is in the running for the award as the first South African since Keshav Maharaj in April 2022. Jansen shone in both T20Is and Tests, contributing with both the ball and bat. His whirlwind knock of 54 off 17 balls in Centurion drew attention, although South Africa lost the match. However, it was his superb performance in the Test series against Sri Lanka that caught the eye, as he picked up 11 wickets in the match, including a remarkable 7-13 in the first innings. His match-winning display boosted South Africa’s chances of securing a spot in the World Test Championship Final.
Haris Rauf rounded off the nominees after a series of impressive performances across formats for Pakistan. Rauf starred in six ODIs and three T20Is, including a fiery three-wicket haul in Melbourne, followed by a match-changing five-wicket haul that helped Pakistan level the series. Rauf’s efforts continued in the series decider at Perth, where he added two more wickets to finish as the series’ top wicket-taker with 10 scalps. His form carried over to the T20I series, where he claimed five wickets, including four in the second game, and took three more wickets during Pakistan’s ODI tour of Zimbabwe. With 18 dismissals across formats, Rauf’s remarkable all-round performance earned him his spot among the nominees.
All three fast bowlers have showcased outstanding skill and consistency, and their performances throughout November have been critical in their respective teams’ success. The winner of the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award will be announced soon.
