CBI Questions RIMS MBBS Student in NEET-UG Paper Leak Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated questioning of a first-year MBBS student from the 2023 batch of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case, a senior official confirmed on Friday.
The student, residing at the girls’ hostel of RIMS, was approached by the CBI earlier this week for interrogation.
Rajiv Ranjan, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of RIMS, stated, “The CBI team contacted the hospital management on Wednesday to question a first-year student regarding the NEET paper leak. The management provided full cooperation, and the student was questioned on Thursday. Further questioning has been indicated by the CBI.”
According to the official, the student’s parents were briefed about the situation after they contacted the management.
In a related development in Bihar, the CBI recently apprehended four MBBS students from AIIMS Patna as part of their ongoing investigation into the paper leak incident.
Earlier this week, the agency had arrested Pankaj Kumar alias Aditya, a civil engineer from the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur, who allegedly pilfered the NEET-UG paper from the National Testing Agency’s trunk in Hazaribagh. Another individual, Raju Singh, was also detained for allegedly aiding Kumar in the theft.
The CBI has filed six FIRs thus far as part of its inquiry into irregularities surrounding the medical entrance examination.
NEET-UG, overseen by the National Testing Agency, serves as a crucial examination for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses in both public and private institutions. This year’s examination, held on May 5, encompassed 4,750 centers across 571 cities, including 14 international venues, with participation from over 23 lakh candidates.
