CBI Reports Missing Links in Rape and Murder Investigation of Kolkata Doctor
Kolkata: On Thursday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a status report to the Supreme Court regarding its investigation into the rape and murder of a woman doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata. The report highlights several critical gaps in the investigation.
The Supreme Court’s division bench, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud, is currently overseeing the case. This marks the second hearing before this division bench, drawing significant attention to the proceedings.
According to sources, the CBI has identified two primary missing links. The first involves a notable delay between the discovery of the body on August 9 and the subsequent notification to the local police. The CBI is scrutinizing the actions of hospital authorities, particularly the former and controversial Principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh, who is being questioned extensively. Dr. Ghosh has been subjected to marathon interrogations lasting 12 to 14 hours daily since last Friday, with his driver also summoned for questioning on Thursday.
The second missing link concerns the identity of the person who first discovered the body in the seminar hall. Despite interrogating multiple medical and non-medical staff, the CBI has yet to confirm who initially spotted the body, as conflicting statements have emerged from witnesses. Determining this individual’s identity is believed to be crucial in resolving various unresolved aspects of the case.
The body of the woman doctor was found under mysterious circumstances on August 9, leading to widespread protests across the city and the country. To date, one person has been arrested in connection with the case.
