CBI to Interrogate Former Principal Sandip Ghosh and Ex-SHO Abhijit Mondal Together in R.G. Kar Medical College Case
Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has decided to interrogate Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, the ex-station house officer (SHO) of Tala Police Station, together to address several suspicious actions related to the recovery of a junior doctor’s body from the hospital premises on August 9.
The investigation has revealed nine phone calls exchanged between Ghosh and Mondal on the morning of the incident, prompting the CBI to examine the nature of their communication during that critical period. The CBI counsel updated a special court in Kolkata on Sunday regarding these calls.
Further suspicions include why Mondal and his team, who were first on the crime scene, and Ghosh, as the head of the medical college, allowed multiple individuals to access the scene, potentially compromising evidence. Additionally, concerns have been raised about why Ghosh did not file an initial rape complaint and why Mondal did not press for the same despite clear indications of a serious crime.
Both Ghosh and Mondal were arrested by the CBI on Saturday night on charges of misleading the investigation and tampering with evidence. They have been remanded to three days of CBI custody. A crucial hearing is scheduled at the Supreme Court on Tuesday, where the CBI will present its second progress report. Indira Jaising, a senior advocate and social activist, will represent the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF), which is leading protests over this tragic case.
