Hyderabad: Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K T Rama Rao (KTR) suggested on Sunday the possibility of the BJP-led Centre declaring Hyderabad a union territory after June 2.
Telangana, established on June 2, 2014, has long been subject to speculation regarding the potential transformation of Hyderabad into a union territory, although no official confirmation has ever been provided.
Under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, Hyderabad was designated as the joint capital for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for a period of 10 years.
“As June 2 approaches this year, marking the conclusion of the 10-year period, the Centre may consider designating Hyderabad as a union territory. There have been indications pointing in this direction,” stated KTR during an election campaign gathering on Sunday, April 28.
KTR emphasized that the Congress lacked the means to thwart the BJP-led Centre’s intentions, underscoring the potential role of the BRS in preventing such actions through parliamentary representation if it were to secure adequate seats.
