Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu Inaugurates Centenary Building at Andhra Medical College

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the newly constructed Centenary Building at Andhra Medical College (AMC) in Visakhapatnam. This state-of-the-art facility was developed by the college’s alumni to commemorate its 100 years of service in medical education and healthcare.

A Legacy of Excellence

Established in 1923, AMC is one of the oldest medical colleges in India, having produced over 20,000 medical professionals who have contributed significantly to healthcare both nationally and internationally. The Centenary Building, comprising East and West blocks, was funded through a ₹45 crore initiative by AMC alumni. The East Block features a gallery celebrating distinguished alumni, a library, academic floors, and a cafeteria, while the West Block houses a 600-seat auditorium.

Commitment to Healthcare Development

During the inauguration, Chief Minister Naidu emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, stating, “Food should become medicine,” and encouraged people to adopt healthier dietary habits. He also announced the establishment of a Level-2 Cancer Centre at King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam, with an investment of ₹60 crore, aiming to transform KGH into a Centre of Excellence akin to AIIMS.

A Vision for the Future

The inauguration of the Centenary Building marks a significant milestone in AMC’s journey, reflecting its commitment to advancing medical education and healthcare services. The collaborative efforts of the alumni and the state government underscore a shared vision for a healthier future for Andhra Pradesh.

The event was attended by dignitaries, faculty members, and students, all witnessing the unfolding of a new chapter in the legacy of Andhra Medical College.
