Chandrababu Naidu Seeks ₹47,000 Crore for Amaravati Development, Highlights Key Projects to Finance Commission
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to the 16th Finance Commission for an additional ₹47,000 crore to support the development of the state capital, Amaravati. Speaking during a detailed presentation, Naidu explained that the total funding requirement for Amaravati stands at ₹77,249 crore. Of this, ₹31,000 crore has already been secured from international and national financial institutions such as the World Bank, HUDCO, and the KfW Development Bank.
The Chief Minister underscored the significance of the capital’s development as part of his broader vision for Andhra Pradesh’s transformation into a high-growth state. He outlined several key areas for which financial support is required, including critical infrastructure and economic development projects.
Major Funding Requirements Presented:
- Polavaram-Banakacharla Linkage: Naidu identified this infrastructure project as vital for improving water and energy connectivity in the state.
- Drinking Water Projects: The Chief Minister emphasized ongoing efforts to provide safe and reliable drinking water to all households.
- Five Tourism Hubs: Development of hubs in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, Araku, Tirupati, and Rajamahendravaram was discussed, alongside plans for a Buddhist Circuit, a National Museum in Amaravati, and a world-class convention centre in Visakhapatnam.
- Knowledge Economy Initiatives: Naidu highlighted the need to develop the Quantum Valley Project, skill enhancement programmes, and the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub. He also reiterated his commitment to achieving 100% literacy in the state.
- Ports and Infrastructure: The government is prioritizing the development of ports, greenfield airports, inland waterways, fishing harbours, and multimodal logistics parks to bolster trade and transportation.
- Regional Growth Centres: Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati were identified as key regional engines of growth, with a call for Finance Commission grants to support this tri-nodal strategy.
During the session, Naidu appealed for generous support from the Commission, stressing that these projects are essential for inclusive and sustainable development in Andhra Pradesh. He reiterated his government’s commitment to driving economic growth through strategic investments and innovation-led governance.
The Chief Minister’s proactive approach and comprehensive presentation were well received by the Finance Commission, further strengthening the state’s case for central assistance.
