Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Announces Placement of Telangana Thali Statue in Secretariat
Hyderabad Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on Wednesday, August 28, that the Telangana Thali statue will be installed in the state secretariat on December 9. This date is set to be a day of celebration for the people of Telangana.
During the bhumi pujan ceremony for the statue, Reddy took the opportunity to criticize his predecessor, BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). He pointed out that despite spending approximately ₹22.5 lakh crore over the past decade, KCR’s administration had not allocated even ₹1 crore for the Telangana Thali statue. Reddy remarked, “KCR believed Telangana was synonymous with himself and he was Telangana.”
Reddy also criticized KCR’s construction of the Pragathi Bhavan, alleging it had led to a disconnect between the government and the public. “A secretariat’s role is to facilitate decision-making that drives state progress and to ensure ministers are accessible to the public. Unfortunately, the previous administration made the building inaccessible, prohibiting public entry,” he stated.
In addition, Reddy announced that a statue of Rajiv Gandhi would be placed in front of the secretariat. While not naming individuals directly, Reddy subtly addressed BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao by stating, “With a Martyrs Memorial for those who sacrificed for Telangana, it is appropriate to have a statue of Rajiv Gandhi as well. I am aware that some are creating controversy over the use of this space.”
The installation of the Telangana Thali statue and the Rajiv Gandhi statue marks significant symbolic gestures for the state, reflecting both heritage and political sentiment.
