Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Criticizes Handcuffing of Farmer Heerya Naik During Hospital Transfer
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has expressed strong displeasure over the handcuffing of farmer Heerya Naik while being transferred from jail to a hospital for medical treatment. Naik, a remand prisoner at the Sangareddy Jail, had complained of chest pain during a routine medical examination.
Following the complaint, Naik was first taken to the Sangareddy Government Hospital for treatment. However, his condition rapidly deteriorated, prompting his transfer to Gandhi Hospital for more advanced care. Despite the severity of his health condition, including a subsequent heart attack, Naik was moved once again, this time to the NIMS Emergency Department in Panjagutta, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Chief Minister Reddy expressed anger and concern over the necessity of handcuffing the prisoner during the transfer, questioning the appropriateness of such an action given Naik’s critical condition. In a statement, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring humane treatment for all individuals, irrespective of their legal status, particularly in medical emergencies.
Revanth Reddy has called for a detailed investigation into the incident, urging the concerned authorities to look into the matter thoroughly. He also directed officials to submit a report on the circumstances surrounding the handcuffing and the procedures followed during the hospital transfer. Furthermore, he instructed medical teams at NIMS to provide the highest standard of care to Naik as he continues to receive treatment.
The incident has raised concerns about the treatment of prisoners in medical emergencies, prompting calls for greater sensitivity and adherence to ethical guidelines in such situations.
