Amidst the crucial assembly and parliamentary elections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana respectively, attention has been drawn to a report concerning Chevella BJP candidate Konda Vishweshwar Reddy.
As Konda represents a recognized national party, he occupies the top position in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), with his name listed second. However, complications arise with another candidate bearing the same name placed below him.
Of note, another candidate named Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, representing the All India Forward Bloc, holds the fifth position on the EVM.
This discrepancy has perturbed the BJP’s Konda, who has taken the matter to the High Court, expressing concerns that voters may be confused by the similar names, potentially resulting in a loss of votes. He has petitioned the court to reposition the All India Forward Bloc’s Konda to the tenth position or lower to mitigate confusion.
However, the court has declined to intervene, citing the Election Commission’s (EC) completion of EVM preparations and the inability to make alterations thereafter. This development poses a challenge to the financially robust Konda, who is considered a frontrunner in the Chevella constituency.
