Oil Marketing Companies Announce Price Cut of Rs 41 on Commercial LPG Cylinders

In a significant relief for industries and businesses that heavily rely on cooking fuel, oil marketing companies announced a price cut of Rs 41 on 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinders on Tuesday. However, the prices of domestic LPG cylinders, which are used for household cooking, remain unchanged in this revision.

Effective from April 1, the new retail sale price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in New Delhi will be Rs 1,762. Other cities have seen varied pricing, with Mumbai’s commercial LPG cylinder priced at Rs 1,714.5, Kolkata at Rs 1,872, and Chennai at Rs 1,924.50.

The previous revision took place on March 1, when commercial LPG prices were hiked by Rs 6, following a reduction of Rs 7 in February.

Experts note that this price adjustment will directly benefit restaurants, hotels, and other commercial establishments that rely on LPG cylinders for their daily operations, helping them manage costs effectively.

The price changes are part of the regular monthly revisions, which are influenced by global crude oil prices and other market dynamics.

Meanwhile, data from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reveals positive trends in the government’s PM Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), with the number of refills for LPG cylinders among poor households doubling in the past five years. The per capita consumption of PMUY beneficiaries has risen to nearly four-and-a-half cylinders per year.

As of March 1, 2025, there are 10.33 crore PMUY connections across India, marking a substantial increase from 2019-2020, when the number of refills stood at 22.80 crore. In the current financial year (FY25), a total of 41.95 crore refills have been delivered as of February, up from 39.38 crore refills in FY24, showcasing the success and growing impact of the scheme.

This positive development highlights the growing reach and impact of the PMUY, improving access to cooking fuel for millions of underprivileged households across the country.
