Complaints Filed Seeking Disqualification of AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi Over Pro-Palestine Slogan in Lok Sabha
New Delhi: Multiple complaints have been submitted to President Droupadi Murmu requesting the immediate disqualification of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi. The complaints follow Owaisi’s raising of a slogan in favor of Palestine during his swearing-in as a Lok Sabha MP on Tuesday.
One complaint, filed by Supreme Court lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava, asserts that Owaisi’s public proclamation of the pro-Palestine slogan “Jai Palestine” in the Indian Parliament demonstrates his allegiance to a foreign country. The complaint argues that this act warrants Owaisi’s disqualification from Parliament under Article 102(d) of the Constitution of India, which disqualifies a member if they acknowledge allegiance or adherence to a foreign state.
The complaint further contends that this is not an isolated incident, citing Owaisi’s consistent support for Palestine over the years. It emphasizes that failure to take action against Owaisi could set a dangerous precedent, threatening the integrity and unity of the nation. The complaint calls for Owaisi’s disqualification in the interest of national integrity.
The AIMIM chief’s actions sparked significant controversy in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Immediately after taking his oath as an MP in the 18th Lok Sabha, Owaisi chanted, “Jai Bhim, Jai Mim, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine, Takbeer Allahu Akbar.”
