Congress Congratulates Donald Trump on US Presidential Victory, Eyes Strengthened Global Cooperation
New Delhi: The Congress party on Wednesday extended its congratulations to Donald Trump following his projected victory in the 2024 US Presidential elections, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge expressing optimism about strengthening India-US relations.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kharge stated, “On behalf of the Indian National Congress, we extend our congratulations and best wishes to President @realDonaldTrump for his election victory.” He further highlighted the robust strategic partnership between India and the United States, emphasizing their shared democratic values and long-standing ties.
“We look forward to working closely with the United States for global peace and prosperity,” Kharge added, underlining the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations.
As Trump, the 78-year-old Republican candidate, approached the threshold for victory with 267 electoral votes, he addressed his supporters in West Palm Beach, Florida, declaring his triumph and vowing to usher in a “golden age of America.” Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris, his Democratic rival, had secured 224 electoral votes, with a few states still counting votes.
The Congress party’s message of congratulations came amid a clear indication of Trump’s political comeback, marking one of the most dramatic presidential election results in recent US history.
