New Delhi: Arun Reddy, an accused linked to the dissemination of a doctored video involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was remanded to three-day police custody by a local court on Saturday.

The arrest of Arun Reddy, who oversees the management of the Telangana Congress’ ‘Spirit of Congress’ account, was effected by Delhi Police on Friday. Sources indicate that Reddy was apprehended in Delhi. Simultaneously, Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police took into custody five individuals residing in Hyderabad: Pendyala Vamshi Krishna, Satish Manne, Pettam Naveen, Asma Tasleem, and Koya Geetha, all suspected of circulating the doctored video featuring the Home Minister.

The incident in question pertains to a speech delivered by Home Minister Shah during a public gathering in Telangana’s Medak on April 23.

As per police statements, Pendyala Vamshi Krishna received a manipulated version of the speech via WhatsApp, subsequently uploading it onto the ‘INCTelangana’ (X) handle and disseminating it across various WhatsApp groups.

Delhi Police initiated an FIR following complaints lodged by the BJP and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), citing violations under Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, and 171G of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as Section 66C of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Despite efforts, investigators have yet to receive responses from social media platforms X and Meta regarding the doctored video, as per information provided by a Delhi Police source to IANS.

Earlier developments saw Delhi Police summon Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for questioning in connection with the case.
