Minister Ponnam Prabhakar Hits Back at BJP’s Criticism, Calls Centre a ‘Mega Failure’

Telangana Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state leadership on Sunday, accusing them of hypocrisy and failing Telangana during their tenure at the Centre.

His remarks came a day after newly-appointed BJP state president Ramchander Rao wrote a letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alleging that the Congress government had failed to deliver on its poll promises. In a sharp rebuttal, Prabhakar accused the BJP of indulging in political theatrics instead of addressing its own long list of unfulfilled commitments.

“You Failed Telangana, Yet You Write to Us”

“It is ironic that BJP leaders, who couldn’t secure even a single rupee for Telangana from the Centre, are now questioning our government,” said Prabhakar in a strongly worded post on social media platform X. He described the Modi-led BJP government as a “mega failure” that has repeatedly let down the people.

“Beyond grandstanding, inciting hatred, and spreading misinformation, what have you achieved?” he asked. “From farmers and youth to women, SCs, STs, BCs, and minorities — your track record is one of betrayal and deception.”

In a striking comment, he added, “If we begin to list your failures, it would read like the Ramayana; if we try to listen to them, it would sound like the Mahabharata.”

Unkept Promises and Inaction on Telangana

Prabhakar outlined several promises made by the BJP in its previous election manifestos, including:

  • Monthly pensions for small and marginal farmers above 60 years,
  • Increase in PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi,
  • Creation of 2 crore jobs annually,
  • Depositing Rs 15 lakh into every citizen’s account,
  • Filling up 10 lakh vacancies in the government.

He questioned the contribution of the eight BJP MPs and two Union Ministers from Telangana, asking: “What have you done for this state in the last 11 years? What is your contribution to Telangana’s development?”

The minister also criticised the BJP for its alleged failure to implement provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, and challenged the party to respond to Prime Minister Modi’s controversial statement in Parliament about the formation of Telangana.

“Write to Modi, Not Us”

Prabhakar advised the BJP to direct their grievances to the Prime Minister instead of the state government. “Instead of writing letters to a government that has been in power for just a year and a half, why don’t you write to Modi to fulfil the promises he made to Telangana?” He concluded by accusing the BJP of acting out of “blind hatred” and questioned the timing of their criticism, calling it politically motivated.
