A Mangalagiri court on Monday ordered YSRCP leader and former Member of Parliament Nandigam Suresh to remain in custody until June 2, in connection with the assault on TDP activist Isakapalli Raju in Uddandarayunipalem, Tullur mandal. Following the court’s decision, Suresh was transferred under tight police escort to the Guntur District Jail.
Suresh was initially arrested on Sunday after Raju’s family filed a complaint alleging that Suresh, his brother, and other relatives forcibly took the activist to Suresh’s residence and assaulted him. Ahead of his court appearance, Suresh underwent mandatory health screenings—including blood pressure and diabetes tests—at Mangalagiri Government Hospital.
Heavy security measures were in place when Suresh was brought before the court. The police cleared the premises by evacuating non-essential personnel and dispersing large groups of his supporters to prevent any disturbances.
The case will next return to court on June 2, when prosecutors are expected to present further evidence and arguments regarding charges of unlawful confinement and assault.
