Amaravati to Expand with Smart Industries, Sports City, and Airport; CRDA Approves Key Infrastructure Plans
Urban Development Minister P. Narayana announced a major step forward in the development of Amaravati, stating that 10,000 acres of land will be required to build Smart Industries, a Sports City, and an International Airport in the Andhra Pradesh capital. The announcement followed the 50th meeting of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the CM’s Camp Office in Undavalli.
The minister revealed that 20,000 acres of land across seven villages have already been offered voluntarily by farmers as part of the second phase of land pooling. Emphasizing that land acquisition is being carried out with minimal disruption to farmers, Narayana said the state government aims to ensure that the development benefits all stakeholders.
Major Approvals by CRDA:
- 2,500 acres each allocated for the development of Smart Industries and Sports City
- Additional 2.5 acres allocated for companies building 10,000-seat convention centers adjacent to five-star hotels
- 2 acres allocated for firms constructing 7,500-seat convention centers
- Permission granted to CRDA for sand mining from the Krishna River, through a desiltation process upstream of Prakasam Barrage, to meet the construction needs of the capital
- Estimated sand requirement over the next two years: 159.54 cubic meters
Narayana affirmed that the first phase of Amaravati’s construction will be completed within three years, following the master development plan.
Other Key Developments Approved:
- Request for Proposal (RFP) to be issued for mixed development projects, including high-density residential zones
- Approval for the construction of convention centers at four different locations (Mandadam, Tullur, and Lingayapalem) on a QBS (Quality-Based Selection) basis
- Green light for the 6-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) on the E-15 highway
- Land allotted to major institutions including:
- CBI
- Geological Survey of India
- Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy
- MSK Prasad Cricket Academy
- KIMS Hospital
- Approval for setting up memorials for Potti Sriramulu and Alluri Sitarama Raju
The CRDA meeting marks a significant milestone in Amaravati’s transformation into a modern, smart capital city. With strategic land allocation and infrastructure approvals now in place, the government is poised to accelerate Amaravati’s growth as a hub for innovation, sports, and governance.
