Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Advocates for National Caste Census, Highlights State’s Model
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged the central government to adopt Telangana’s approach as a model for conducting a nationwide caste census. Addressing the media, he emphasized that the state’s comprehensive and transparent methodology offers a robust framework for the national exercise.
The Telangana government executed its caste survey through extensive consultations with civil society, social scientists, and community leaders, ensuring public participation and scrutiny. This inclusive process resulted in the collection of detailed data, including 57 questions addressing various aspects of caste and socio-economic status.
Chief Minister Reddy highlighted that the state’s caste census has provided valuable insights into the demographic composition, with Backward Classes constituting 56.33% of the population.
