Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Delegates Flag Hoisting Duty to Minister Atishi
New Delhi: On Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal formally informed Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena via letter that Education Minister Atishi Marlena will hoist the national flag in his place on August 15. This decision follows CM Kejriwal’s current incarceration at Tihar Jail in relation to corruption and money laundering allegations tied to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
In his correspondence with L-G Saxena, CM Kejriwal confirmed, “Minister Atishi will hoist the flag on August 15 in my place.” This tradition, where the Chief Minister typically presides over the Independence Day ceremony at Chhatrasal Stadium, will be observed by Atishi due to Kejriwal’s absence.
Kejriwal’s imprisonment stems from his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the excise policy case. The Delhi High Court has recently reserved its decision on a bail application filed by Kejriwal and upheld his arrest, citing concerns about potential witness tampering. Concurrently, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a prosecution complaint against Kejriwal in a separate money laundering case.
Despite the Supreme Court’s July 12 order granting interim bail in the money laundering case, Kejriwal remains in custody due to ongoing CBI proceedings. The Delhi High Court has extended his judicial custody until August 9 for the CBI case and until August 13 for the money laundering case.
