Delhi Government to Hold Emergency Meeting on Water Crisis Amid Heatwave
New Delhi: The Delhi government will convene an emergency meeting on Thursday to address the city’s ongoing water crisis amid an extreme heatwave, officials announced.
The national capital is experiencing a severe water shortage due to unprecedented summer temperatures, with parts of the city reaching around 50 degrees Celsius.
The meeting, scheduled for noon, will include Water Minister Atishi, Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, the chief secretary, and other senior officials.
Atishi has attributed the water supply shortage to Haryana’s cessation of Delhi’s share from the Yamuna River.
In response, the city government imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 for water wastage and formed 200 teams to enforce the penalty.
Additionally, measures have been implemented such as running tubewells in double shifts and deploying water tankers to supply water in affected areas.
