MS Dhoni Yet to Decide on IPL Future, Focuses on Grooming Young Talent
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stalwart Mahendra Singh Dhoni has addressed growing speculation regarding his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL), stating that he has not yet made a decision on whether the 2025 season will be his last. The 43-year-old, who turns 44 in July, made the remarks following CSK’s recent win against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
While Dhoni has largely limited his cricketing appearances to the IPL in recent years, he acknowledged the physical toll the tournament takes. “Though I play only two months a year, I need to spend six to eight months preparing my body. Whether I can continue to take that strain is something I’ll have to assess,” he said.

In Wednesday’s match against KKR, Dhoni came in during the 13th over and provided vital support to Shivam Dube, hitting a crucial six that helped seal a tense victory.
With CSK officially out of the playoff contention this season, Dhoni indicated that the team is shifting its focus toward preparing for IPL 2026. “The remaining matches are being used to test and groom young players,” he said.

Among the emerging talents highlighted by Dhoni were Urvil Patel and Dewald Brevis. In his debut match, Patel impressed with a quickfire 31 off 11 balls, while Brevis scored a blistering half-century off just 22 deliveries—both showing early signs of promise.
Reflecting on the developmental strategy, Dhoni explained: “Players can be assessed in nets and practice games, but it is only in actual matches that their skill and mental resilience are truly revealed. It’s not always the most technically sound players who succeed—those who can read the game and anticipate a bowler’s strategy are the ones who excel.”
