Dubai International Airport Poised for Record-Breaking Year as Passenger Traffic Soars
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is on track to break records in passenger traffic for the year, following a strong performance in the first nine months of 2024. By the end of September, the airport welcomed 68.6 million passengers, marking a 6.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth was driven by a successful third quarter, during which DXB handled approximately 23.7 million passengers.
Flight movements also saw a notable rise, with over 327,700 flights recorded, representing a 6.4 percent increase over the previous year. India topped the list of markets, contributing 8.9 million visitors, followed by Saudi Arabia with 5.6 million and the UK with 4.6 million. Other significant markets included Pakistan, the USA, and Germany, while London remained the most popular city destination.
Looking ahead, Dubai Airport expects to welcome 23.2 million passengers in the final quarter, driven by high direct traffic as expats travel home for the holidays and visitors come for the UAE’s bustling winter season. Approximately 60 percent of Q4 traffic is projected to be direct.
DXB has retained its position as the world’s busiest international airport for the tenth consecutive year, as confirmed by the Airports Council International earlier in 2024.
