Election Commission Dismisses Congress Allegations of Slowdown in Haryana Poll Results
New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday, October 8, addressed Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s claims regarding an alleged “unexplained slowdown” in the updating of Haryana poll results, stating there was no evidence to support his allegations.
Earlier in the day, Congress raised concerns with the EC, urging it to ensure timely updates of election results on its website to combat what they described as “false news and malicious narratives.” Ramesh highlighted a two-hour delay between 9 and 11 AM in the updating process, prompting the party to seek intervention from the poll watchdog.
In its response, the EC clarified that vote counting was being conducted in accordance with Rule 60 of the Conduct of Election Rules at designated centers by authorized officials. The Commission emphasized that the counting process was proceeding transparently, with candidates, observers, and micro-observers present to ensure adherence to statutory guidelines.
“There is nothing on record to substantiate your ill-founded allegation of a slowdown in updating of results,” the EC stated, adding that Ramesh’s memorandum failed to present any contrary facts regarding delays in specific constituencies in Haryana or Jammu and Kashmir.
