New Delhi: Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, criticized Meta-owned WhatsApp on Saturday, alleging that the messaging platform exports users’ data nightly.
Responding to a user’s post about WhatsApp exporting user data for targeted advertising, Musk remarked that “WhatsApp exports your user data every night,” emphasizing concerns about privacy and security.
Meta or WhatsApp had not responded to Musk’s accusation at the time of reporting.
In response to Musk’s comments, computer programmer and video game developer John Carmack queried whether there is evidence that message content is scanned or transmitted.
“I assume usage patterns and routing metadata are collected,” Carmack stated, highlighting ongoing discussions about privacy practices on messaging platforms.
The X owner has previously criticized Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg. Earlier this month, Musk accused Meta of excessive credit-taking from advertisers who utilize its platform.
The rivalry between Musk and Zuckerberg is well-documented, with past speculation about a potential high-profile confrontation between the two tech figures dubbed as a “cage fight.”
