In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into illegal mining activities, senior YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former Andhra Pradesh minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by the Venkatagiri court in Nellore district.
The case, filed at Podalakur Police Station, accuses Reddy of involvement in the unauthorized excavation and transportation of quartz, as well as the illegal use of explosives. Authorities have also charged him with threatening local tribal communities who attempted to halt the mining operations. Reddy has been named as Accused No. 4 (A4) in the case.
The arrest followed a dramatic turn of events, as Andhra Pradesh police apprehended Reddy in Bengaluru on Sunday. He was transported under tight security to the Nellore District Police Training Centre earlier today. A convoy of nine police vehicles, including special forces, escorted him to the Venkatagiri court, where he was presented before a magistrate. After reviewing the case details and hearing legal arguments, the magistrate ordered Reddy to be placed in judicial custody for two weeks. Authorities are now preparing to shift him to jail.
The case has stirred political ripples, with YSRCP leaders alleging political vendetta behind the arrest, while police maintain that the charges are based on substantial evidence collected over time.
