In a major political development, former Gannavaram MLA and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi has been taken into police custody in connection with a land scam involving the alleged distribution of fake housing patta documents in Bapulapadu Mandal.
Currently on judicial remand at Vijayawada Sub-Jail, Vamsi was escorted by police to Kankipadu Police Station on Friday morning following a court-approved custody order. Authorities had sought two days of custodial interrogation to deepen their investigation into the case. The court granted the request, enabling police to question Vamsi under direct supervision.
The case revolves around serious allegations that ineligible individuals were illegally issued land pattas, allegedly at the expense of legitimate beneficiaries. These actions have sparked public outrage, with suspicions that a larger network of manipulation may be at play.
Earlier, a Prisoner Transit (PT) warrant was issued against Vamsi, leading to his arrest and subsequent presentation before the court, which remanded him to custody. This case adds to a growing list of legal challenges faced by the former legislator.
According to police sources, investigators believe key details may surface during this two-day interrogation window. Officials are optimistic that Vamsi’s questioning could unravel deeper links in the fake patta distribution racket, possibly implicating additional players.
The case is being closely monitored, and authorities have indicated that further legal action may follow based on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
