New Delhi: A court on Saturday remanded Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody until July 12 in connection with a corruption case related to the alleged excise scam.
Kejriwal was presented in court by the CBI following the conclusion of his three-day custodial interrogation. The CBI requested a 14-day judicial custody, stating that his incarceration was necessary “in the interest of the investigation and justice.”
Special Judge Sunena Sharma approved the CBI’s plea and ordered Kejriwal to appear in court on July 12. A detailed order is forthcoming.
Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI for alleged irregularities in his government’s excise policy. On March 21, he was also detained by the ED in a money laundering case linked to the now-revoked policy. He was initially granted bail by a trial court, but this decision was stayed by the Delhi High Court.
