CM Chandrababu Naidu’s WhatsApp Governance Model Wins Praise from 16th Finance Commission
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made a strong impression on the 16th Finance Commission by personally presenting a detailed overview of Andhra Pradesh’s key governance initiatives, with particular emphasis on the state’s innovative WhatsApp Governance model. The Commission’s members lauded the Chief Minister for both his comprehensive presentation and the forward-thinking measures introduced by his administration.
During the high-level meeting, Chief Minister Naidu outlined the transformative role of WhatsApp Governance in delivering public services directly to citizens, minimizing the need for physical visits to government offices. He announced plans to expand the initiative, stating, “We will soon be offering 1,000 government services through WhatsApp, ensuring that public service delivery becomes more accessible, efficient, and citizen-centric.”
Commission Chairman Arvind Panagariya expressed strong appreciation for the initiative and inquired whether the model had been brought to the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In response, Chief Minister Naidu said he had not yet presented the concept to the Prime Minister but intended to do so during their upcoming meeting next month.
Panagariya also commended Naidu’s in-person presentation of the state’s economic outlook, remarking that it was “surprising and impressive” for a Chief Minister to personally engage in such detailed economic discussions. He praised the depth of analysis provided, particularly regarding Andhra Pradesh’s growth metrics and the state’s appeal for continued central government support.
Finance Commission member Annezar George Mathew reflected on the significant transformation of Hyderabad over the past 30 years and attributed much of that success to Naidu’s leadership during his earlier tenure. She expressed confidence that Amaravati, under his current leadership, would see similar growth and development.
The meeting highlighted Naidu’s proactive governance style and his commitment to integrating technology into administrative systems, reinforcing his image as a tech-savvy reformist aiming to modernize governance in Andhra Pradesh.
