Delhi Police Register FIR Against Chief Minister Atishi for Election Code Violation Ahead of Assembly Elections
Delhi Police have filed an FIR against Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi just one day before the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, citing a violation of the Election Code of Conduct. The case was registered at the Govindpuri police station in response to an incident that took place on Fateh Singh Marg, where Atishi was reportedly seen with a convoy of 10 vehicles and a group of 50 to 70 supporters.
According to a senior police official, Atishi’s actions prompted authorities to intervene as they believe the assembly and movement of such a large group violated the prescribed election norms. The police issued instructions to vacate the area and disperse the crowd to ensure compliance with election guidelines, but it is alleged that Atishi obstructed the authorities from carrying out their duties, leading to the filing of the FIR.
In her defense, Atishi responded publicly via her X account, accusing Ramesh Bidhuri, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Delhi Assembly, and his family of engaging in attacks in the open. She further criticized the Election Commission for its failure to take any action against the BJP candidate and his family, alleging that their actions had gone unchecked by the authorities.
Atishi’s accusations highlight the tense political atmosphere in the capital as voting for the 70 Delhi Assembly constituencies is set to take place in a single phase on Wednesday. The incident has added further controversy to an already heated election campaign, raising questions about the impartiality of election-related procedures and the enforcement of rules.
As the election day approaches, this development will likely have an impact on the public discourse, with both the ruling party and the opposition making their voices heard regarding the matter.
