Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Presents Economic Survey Ahead of Union Budget
New Delhi: In a customary practice ahead of the Union Budget, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Economic Survey in the Lok Sabha on Friday. This tradition allows lawmakers to review the country’s economic performance and the challenges that lie ahead before the formal Union Budget is unveiled.
Following the presentation, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House until Saturday. The Economic Survey, which has been an annual feature since 1950-51, provides a detailed analysis of the country’s economic health over the previous fiscal year and anticipates the challenges for the next. Since 1960, it has been presented a day prior to the Budget, a practice that continues today.
Prepared by the Economic Division of the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance, the survey serves as an important document for gauging the nation’s economic trajectory. The Union Budget will be presented tomorrow at 11 AM, marking the beginning of the financial planning process for the year.
The first phase of the Budget Session runs from January 31 to February 13, with the second phase scheduled from March 10 to April 4.
