Folk Singer Mangli Booked After Alleged Drug, Liquor Violations at Birthday Bash Near Hyderabad
Renowned Telugu folk singer Mangli has landed in legal trouble after a birthday celebration at a private resort near Hyderabad was disrupted by police in the early hours of Wednesday. Authorities allege that ganja (cannabis) and foreign liquor were found at the event, which reportedly lacked the necessary official clearances.
Acting on a tip-off, the Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT) conducted a surprise raid at Tripura Resort in Erlapally village, located on the outskirts of Chevella in Rangareddy district, around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. During the operation, one individual was allegedly caught in the act of consuming ganja at the venue. Police have since registered a case against Mangli, the resort management, and others involved, citing multiple violations under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate jurisdiction.
Violations Under Investigation
According to officials, the event was organised without prior police permission, and alcohol was served without approval from excise authorities. The use of unauthorised DJ equipment and sound systems without a valid license has also drawn penalties. The General Manager of Tripura Resort has also been booked for allowing the party to take place in violation of multiple norms.
In addition, police conducted drug tests on 48 attendees. The results of those tests are yet to be made public. Notably, several celebrities were among the guests and may soon receive formal notices as part of the ongoing investigation.
Crackdown on Drug Use at Private Parties
The incident is part of a broader crackdown on drug-related offences and illegal gatherings at private venues in and around Hyderabad. The Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda police, along with the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGNAB), have ramped up surveillance on resorts, pubs, bars, and farmhouses, in a bid to curb the rising instances of drug use and unauthorised parties. Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, especially in the context of celebrities and influencers who attract large crowds and media attention.
