Foxconn Chairman Yang Liu Expresses Interest in Investing in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Foxconn Chairman Yang Liu, during a meeting with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on August 16, 2024, expressed keen interest in expanding the company’s investments in Hyderabad. Liu, leading the Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturer known for producing iPhones, acknowledged Hyderabad’s potential for growth across various sectors including industry and services.
The meeting, held in New Delhi, was part of Foxconn’s exploration of investment opportunities in Hyderabad. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy presented a detailed overview of the city’s historical significance, industrial potential, and favorable investment climate. He highlighted the development plans for a new phase of the city, referred to as the ‘Fourth City,’ which aims to foster growth in sectors such as education, medicine, sports, electronics, and skill development.
Revanth Reddy emphasized the establishment of the Young India Skill Development University as a key component of this ambitious Fourth City project. Foxconn’s engagement in Hyderabad follows the company’s recent $500 million investment in a production plant near the city, as announced by former state IT Minister KT Rama Rao.
The Chief Minister also assured Liu of full support from the Telangana government, including expedited permits and incentives, to facilitate the establishment of Foxconn’s operations in Hyderabad. Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu further briefed Liu on the state’s industrial policies and international collaborations designed to boost economic development.
Liu praised Revanth Reddy’s strategic vision and confirmed plans for an initial visit by a team led by Chief Campus Operations Officer Kathy Yang and India representative V. Lee, with Liu himself expected to follow up. The discussions signal Foxconn’s strong interest in leveraging Hyderabad’s growth prospects to enhance its business footprint in India.
