Tulsi Gabbard Expresses Commitment to Strengthening US-India Ties
Tulsi Gabbard, the newly confirmed US Director of National Intelligence, expressed her eagerness to strengthen the relationship between the United States and India. In a post on X, Gabbard wrote, “It was an honor to welcome India’s Prime Minister @narendramodi back to the United States, and I look forward to continuing to strengthen the US-India friendship.”
Her message was in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s post about their recent meeting in Washington DC. Modi had congratulated Gabbard on her confirmation and noted their discussions on various aspects of the India-US relationship, emphasizing Gabbard’s longstanding advocacy for the partnership.
Gabbard became the Prime Minister’s first major visitor during his recent visit to the US. She met with him at Blair House, a US government facility, on Wednesday evening, just hours after her confirmation as Director of National Intelligence.
Gabbard, a former US Congresswoman, has deep ties with India. During her time in the House of Representatives, she co-chaired the India Caucus and developed a personal relationship with Prime Minister Modi. Notably, Modi had sent gifts through an emissary to her wedding in Hawaii in 2015.
Gabbard’s visit follows those of other prominent figures, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who called on Modi the following morning, and Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, who visited with his family shortly after. Vivek Ramaswamy also visited the Prime Minister at Blair House later in the visit.
With key figures in the US administration emphasizing the importance of the India-US relationship, Gabbard’s appointment signals continued efforts to deepen ties between the two nations.
