Sourav Ganguly Reappointed as ICC Men’s Cricket Committee Chairperson
Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has been reappointed as the Chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Cricket Committee. The governing body confirmed the extension of his term on Saturday, along with the reappointment of former Indian batting great VVS Laxman as a committee member.
Ganguly, who served as Team India’s captain from 2000 to 2005, initially took over the role in 2021, succeeding Anil Kumble. Now 52, Ganguly will continue in the position for another three-year term, reinforcing his influence in shaping the future of international men’s cricket.
The ICC also introduced new members to the committee, including several high-profile former players:
- Hamid Hassan (Afghanistan)
- Desmond Haynes (West Indies legend)
- Temba Bavuma (current South Africa captain in Tests and ODIs)
- Jonathan Trott (former England batter)
These appointments highlight the ICC’s ongoing effort to incorporate diverse global perspectives into the governance and development of the game.
In a parallel move, the ICC announced the new leadership of the Women’s Cricket Committee. Former New Zealand off-spinner Catherine Campbell has been appointed as Chairperson. Joining her on the panel are former Australian cricketer Avril Fahey and Pholetsi Moseki, CEO of Cricket South Africa.
The ICC’s recent appointments mark a continued focus on involving experienced former players and administrators in shaping the sport, ensuring both the men’s and women’s games grow with insight and integrity.
