New Delhi: Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI)-enabled smartphones saw a notable rise, comprising 6% of global smartphone sales in Q1 2024, up from 1.3% in the previous quarter, as per a recent report.
Premium smartphones (with a wholesale price exceeding $600) constituted over 70% of GenAI-capable smartphone sales in the same period, with Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series dominating. The Galaxy S24 Ultra led with more than 30% market share.
“Samsung’s robust marketing strategy emphasizing the GenAI features of the Galaxy S24, bolstered by its strong global presence, secured the brand a commanding 58% share in the GenAI segment,” analysts noted.
Chinese brands, including Xiaomi’s 14 and vivo’s X100 models, claimed four of the top-10 spots.
Looking ahead to 2024, analysts anticipate GenAI smartphones to comprise 11% of the total market, driven by evolving use cases and heightened consumer awareness. Media-centric functionalities and personalized virtual assistants are expected to drive adoption, supported by competitively priced GenAI-capable chipsets from major semiconductor manufacturers.
Analysts also foresee Apple’s entry into the GenAI arena later this year with its 2024 iPhone lineup.
