Giriraj Singh Blames Samajwadi Party for Bahraich Violence During Durga Idol Immersion

Varanasi: Union Minister Giriraj Singh has leveled serious accusations against the Samajwadi Party (SP) and its chief, Akhilesh Yadav, attributing responsibility for the violence that erupted in Bahraich district during the Durga idol immersion on October 13-14.

In an interview with IANS, Singh questioned Yadav’s leadership, suggesting that his family’s history was marred by violence against Hindus. “I want to ask Akhilesh Yadav: Even though your father may have ordered the killing of Hindus and Kar Sevaks, was the partition of the country based on religion between Hindus and Muslims? Was this the reason for the partition?” Singh remarked. He expressed concern over the challenges faced by religious processions, stating, “When we want to hold a religious procession for Durga Puja or the immersion of idols, we face bullets. Is this a conspiracy? If so, it’s Akhilesh Yadav’s conspiracy, Congress’ conspiracy, and the conspiracy of the ‘tukde-tukde’ gang.”

Singh also announced his plans for a four-day ‘Hindu Swabhiman Yatra’ across five districts in Bihar, aimed at fostering unity among Hindus. He dismissed objections from opposition leaders, referencing a previous yatra organized by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav that had not drawn similar criticism.

The violence in Bahraich followed the death of a youth, which incited an angry mob to damage property and set fire to several homes. The situation remains tense, prompting authorities to deploy police and suspend internet services in the area. In response to the unrest, the government has relieved the in-charge officers of the Hardi police station and has pledged strict action against those responsible.

Additionally, Singh expressed gratitude to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for preparing an ordinance targeting “thook (spit) jihad.” He echoed sentiments from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who vowed to prevent religious conversion, encroachment, and related issues in the state.
