BC Leaders Demand Increased Reservations and Comprehensive Caste Survey in Telangana
A significant meeting aimed at enhancing Backward Classes (BC) reservations was held in Hyderabad on Friday, organized by the All India BC Federation and the BC Welfare Association. The event, chaired by BC Welfare Association National President Jajula Srinivas Goud, witnessed the participation of various political leaders, intellectuals, and BC association representatives, all advocating for increased BC reservations in the state.
Former National BC Commission Chairman Justice Vangala Eshwariah presented a draft of the BC Act he had formulated, urging the government to raise BC reservations based on population ratios. Justice Eshwariah emphasized the need for a systemic approach to addressing the BC community’s concerns and equitable representation in the state’s political structure.
Srinivas Goud, during his address, pointed out that the state had not yet completed a comprehensive caste census, which is crucial for determining the precise needs of BC communities. He demanded that the government conduct a special caste survey to better understand the demographic needs and appropriately increase reservations. Additionally, he called for the release of a white paper on BC reservations, shedding light on the government’s current stance and progress in this matter.
Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Banka Prakash Mudiraj and former minister Srinivas Goud also participated, echoing the call for a meeting with BC intellectuals and government representatives to discuss the issue further.
Key figures from various political parties and organizations attended the meeting, including Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation Chairman Erapatri Anil, Congress leader Addanki Dayakar, Dr. Bura Narsaiah Goud, Taduru Srinivasulu, Dr. Vijayabhaskar, and retired IAS officer Cholletti Prabhakar. Other notable attendees included Dharma Samaj Party President Visharathan Maharaj, Kulakacharla Srinivas, Vakulabharanam Krishnamohan Rao, and Professor Muralimanohar, the Convener of the BC Intellectuals Forum.
As the discussions continue, the BC community in Telangana is hopeful for positive developments in the ongoing fight for equitable representation and rights in the state’s political and social spheres.
