GSMA Report Forecasts 5G Spectrum Contribution of $27 Billion to India’s GDP by 2030
New Delhi: According to a GSMA report released on Tuesday, the widespread availability of 5G spectrum is expected to add approximately $27 billion to India’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030.
The GSMA, representing mobile networks globally, emphasized the importance of including the upper 6 GHz band in India’s spectrum roadmap to support 5G deployment.
Luciana Camargos, Head of Spectrum at GSMA, noted India’s increasing momentum in 5G adoption on a global scale.
“To sustain this momentum and achieve the Indian government’s digital ambitions, a clear roadmap for spectrum allocation to meet growing mobile demands is crucial,” Camargos stated.
“The inclusion of the upper 6 GHz band in this roadmap requires close collaboration between government and the mobile industry.”
India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets for 5G globally, with users consuming nearly 3.6 times more mobile data traffic compared to 4G since its launch in October 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The 5G device ecosystem in India is rapidly expanding, with approximately 17% of active 4G devices, totaling 134 million out of 796 million, now capable of 5G connectivity, as per the ‘Nokia Mobile Broadband Index’ report.
The introduction of 5G has significantly boosted data usage growth in the country.
