BRS MLA T. Harish Rao Criticizes Telangana Government Over Stray Dog Deaths and Veterinary Care

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA T. Harish Rao on Friday, November 8, took to social media to sharply criticize the Telangana government for its alleged negligence concerning the welfare of stray dogs in the state. Rao, a former Telangana Health Minister, raised serious concerns over the deaths of several stray dogs due to starvation, as well as the broader issues within the state’s veterinary healthcare system.

Allegations of Negligence and Animal Cruelty

Rao specifically pointed to a distressing incident in Mancherial district, where eight stray dogs were reported to have died due to starvation after being left without food for 10 days. He also highlighted the ongoing suffering of 12 other stray dogs currently residing at an animal welfare center in the district.

“Municipal authorities in Mancherial have been neglecting their duties, and there are over 20 stray dogs suffering from poor vision,” Harish Rao remarked, adding that the lack of action from the concerned authorities has exacerbated the plight of these animals.

Government’s Laxity in Animal Welfare

Rao, who represents Siddipet in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, strongly criticized the local municipal authorities for their inaction. He claimed that the government’s failure to address the dire conditions faced by stray dogs reflected a broader issue of indifference toward animal welfare in the state.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rao wrote: “Laxity of the government authorities has led to the silence of mutes,” pointing to the severe neglect faced by the animals.

Call for Action and Accountability

The MLA called on the state government to take swift action against those responsible for the deaths of the stray dogs and the suffering of others. He emphasized the need for better veterinary healthcare and more effective measures to ensure the well-being of stray animals across the state.

The issue of stray dog welfare and veterinary care has been a subject of increasing concern in Telangana, with animal rights groups also calling for more accountability and improved care facilities for stray animals.
