Security forces have identified two heavily armed terrorists roaming the Pathankot district, home to a key Indian Air Force base, prompting a high alert on Wednesday. Troops have conducted extensive raids across multiple villages in the area. Border Range DIG Rakesh Kushal reported that suspicious movements were detected last night, leading to a complete lockdown of the area. Alerts have been issued to all security agencies, including the BSF.
Pathankot SSP Suhail Qasim Mir shared details of the situation, noting that the region shares a border with Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir. The suspects were also spotted in Kot Pannu in Kathua. Earlier this month, security forces shot dead two infiltrators from Pakistan in Sukpal village, Kathua district.
Past Attack on Air Force Base In January 2016, terrorists attacked the Pathankot air force base. They initially hijacked vehicles and entered the base, camouflaging themselves in thick grass. The attackers entered the quarters early in the morning, resulting in several casualties. It took the Air Force and other security forces several days to neutralize the threat completely. Fortunately, there was no damage to the Air Force’s key weapon assets during the attack.
