Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Police has initiated legal action against an individual for disseminating a “misleading and baseless” social media post concerning the property of Miraya Vadra, the daughter of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
A case has been registered under sections 153 (provocation for riots), 469 (forgery), 500 (defamation), and 505 (inciting a community or persons for an offense against any other community) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against one Anoop Verma at Shimla East police station, as per police reports on Tuesday.
The complaint was lodged by Congress member Pramod Gupta, alleging that Verma had posted a misleading and unfounded tweet about Miraya Vadra.
A senior officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the registration of the case.
According to the complaint, the post falsely claimed that Miraya Vadra possesses assets worth Rs 3,000 crore solely due to her lineage as the daughter of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and granddaughter of Sonia Gandhi.
Gupta asserted in his complaint that the dissemination of this false and unfounded tweet during the parliamentary elections aimed to tarnish the credibility of the Congress party and incite animosity toward it among the public.
The complaint further stated that the fabricated post has damaged the reputation of Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and has sparked resentment among Congress workers in Himachal Pradesh and the general public, posing a potential threat to public peace.
