Indian Chess Prodigy Gukesh D. Dommaraju Wins World Chess Championship, Takes Home ₹11.45 Crore
Indian chess prodigy Dommaraju Gukesh has made history by winning the World Chess Championship, defeating China’s Ding Liren in a remarkable victory. At just 18 years old, Gukesh became the youngest-ever World Chess Champion, achieving a significant milestone in the world of chess.
As the new World Chess Champion, Gukesh will receive a prestigious trophy and a cash prize of $1.35 million (approximately ₹11.45 crore). The runner-up, Ding Liren, will be awarded $1.15 million (around ₹9.75 crore). The total prize pool for the championship amounted to ₹21.75 crore.
The tournament’s prize structure includes ₹1.69 crore for each game won. With three game victories, Gukesh earned ₹5.09 crore, while Ding secured ₹3.39 crore for his two wins. The remaining prize money was evenly distributed, bringing Gukesh’s total earnings to ₹11.45 crore and Ding’s to ₹9.75 crore.
The trophy presentation ceremony is scheduled for today, marking the official celebration of Gukesh’s historic achievement in the world of chess.
