In a startling twist that has rocked Hyderabad’s medical and public circles, a female doctor working at a reputed hospital in the city has been arrested for possession and use of high-grade narcotic substances, exposing a year-long secret addiction that cost nearly ₹70 lakh.
The revelation has left many in disbelief, especially given the doctor’s professional duty to safeguard health and counsel patients against substance abuse. Instead, she was found to be a long-time user herself.
Crackdown on a Shocking Double Life
Based on actionable intelligence, Hyderabad police placed the doctor under discreet surveillance for several days. The operation culminated in a dramatic arrest when she was caught red-handed in the Shaikpet area receiving a drug consignment worth ₹5 lakh.
Rayadurgam police confirmed that the doctor resided in the APAHC Colony in Shaikpet and had maintained a professional façade while secretly sustaining her drug habit. Over the past year, she allegedly spent nearly ₹70 lakh on narcotics, mainly cocaine.
Dark Web of Drug Trafficking Unraveled
Investigations revealed that she was in contact with Vans Thakkar, a drug peddler based in Mumbai, through encrypted messaging apps. Payments for the drugs were made digitally. The latest delivery was coordinated through Vans’ associate, Balakrishna Rampyar Ram, who brought the consignment to Hyderabad.
As Rampyar was handing over the cocaine to the doctor, the police moved in, arresting both individuals. A total of 53 grams of cocaine was seized during the bust. Both suspects are now being interrogated for further links to a wider narcotics network, and officials have not ruled out more arrests.
Public Trust Shaken
This incident has sparked serious concern and conversations around substance abuse in high-stress professions, especially among healthcare workers. The hospital where the doctor was employed has not yet issued a formal statement but is expected to cooperate with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
As the probe deepens, law enforcement officials say they are determined to dismantle the network supplying narcotics to professionals under the radar in Hyderabad.
